Sam aka devmansam is a member of the software engineering cohort 100devs. He is known for his kindness, his skill, his sense of humor, his eagerness to help others, his iconic hair and sunglasses, and his fondness for pizza. He has built multiple projects dedicated to helping freelancing devs find prospective clients. He was initially diagnosed with hepatitis in April; while the doctors were replacing the stents in his bile and pancreatic ducts to treat it they found a lesion on his pancreas that quickly evolved into stage 3 pancreatic cancer. On June 15th he underwent surgery to remove the head of his pancreas, his gallbladder, part of his bile duct, and his duodenum (the beginning part of the small intestine); a few weeks ago he began what will be six months of aggressive chemo. As of September 18th he is cancer free, and will be continuing with the remainder of his chemo treatments.
Reaching out to him directly and wishing him well is always encouraged. Treat him like a friend, the regular guy he is; he just happens to be going through a difficult time. Be kind, be chill, don't be weird. Sam values each message that is sent and has openly said he needs his friends, his community now. A GoFundMe may be opened for him in the next few months, and if so will be shared on Discord, bsky, and here.
